Newport Beach, Orange County
Newport Harbor shelters several thousand boats, making it one of the largest recreational harbors on the West Coast. Each December decorated yachts circle the bay in the Newport Beach Christmas boat parade, which dates to 1908. At the tip of the Balboa Peninsula, a jetty creates the Wedge, a shore break where waves can reach twenty feet or more on a big south swell.
